Most of the ducks in our shop are somebody. A footballer, a nurse, a dinosaur, a crypto bro in a top hat. The Loveduck is one of the few that is not a character at all. It is a plain yellow duck covered in red hearts, with the word LOVE printed on its chest, and it does something none of the others do: it says a thing you were struggling to say yourself.
What it actually is
Classic yellow body, orange beak, red hearts scattered across the front and sides. No costume, no hat, no accessory. It is roughly the size of a tennis ball and it floats, though almost nobody buys it for the bath.
Who it is really for
We watch this one leave the shop on the Rokin all day, and it is almost never someone buying for themselves. It goes to partners around Valentine's day, obviously. But it also goes to a friend who has had a rough month, to a colleague on their last day, to a nurse, to somebody's mother. It ends up in backpacks and on desks and on the dashboards of delivery vans.
The reason is simple. A card is a lot of pressure. Flowers die in a week. A small yellow duck with hearts on it says the same thing without asking anybody to be sentimental about it, and it is still sitting on the shelf a year later.
Where it sits in the collection
